In 1952, Ed Johnson began a small Bible study in a home on the north side of Chico. The area was called Pleasant Valley, and this was the birth place of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. On that first Sunday in June, over 50 people attended the opening service. As Pastor Johnson was obeying God’s call for him to begin this church, God was also blessing in a mighty way! The church saw immediate growth, and there was a spirit of excitement in every service of this young church. That spirit has continued for over 60 years now!
In our church’s blessed history, we have seen the beginning of a bus ministry, which for over thirty years has provided free transportation to and from our church for anyone who needs a ride. We have also provided, quality, Christ-centered education for 30 years, seeing many of our graduates go on to attain college degrees, and become profitable members of society. Our church currently supports over 100 foreign and domestic missionaries, expanding our reach to nearly every continent.
Our current pastor, Tim Ruhl, moved with his family here in 1988. In the past 27 years, our church has seen exponential growth in nearly every area of ministry. Our pastor's strong love for the Lord and His Word is evident in every message he preaches.Pleasant Valley Baptist Church can be summed up as a church that feels like a family. It is a place where people are accepted, and encouraged to live for God. It is a place where God’s love is evident, His word is exalted, and His presence is eminent.
